Prayers That hit the Target

A prayer for alignment

I’m posting a prayer today for the following reasons:

  1. Al-Anon’s Step 11 (no, I’m not getting ahead of myself here; just setting the stage) recommends that we encounter life with prayer and meditation.
  2. I am an “acquired” Christian; ergo, I pray. I didn’t grow up with religion. I purposely acquired Christianity — a little over a decade in my Al-Anon program — when I needed to affirm that there’s a power greater than myself at work in the world. I simply couldn’t live off my own steam anymore.

I’m not a flowery pray-er. Not because I don’t revere my Higher Power (whom I choose to call “God”), but because he made me simple, direct, and expedient. It’s just who I am. I am His child and I talk with him as I am.

Being present and praying for alignment

My greatest daily struggle is to stand within My Higher Power’s will at all times that power’s quiet promptings. To do this requires that I try as much as possible to remain in the present, i.e., to keep my head where my feet are.

Sitting in my own skin is a challenge for me. My mind is quick and almost always racing ahead of where my body actually is or lagging behind it, lost in the past. Add to that the altered physical sensations in my…
