I know I'm quietly racist. I usually assume that any given black person will automatically hate me because I'm a white person. I'd love to see, and would participate in, some mechanism of formal public apology using white surrogates for black people. Like the stunning episode on early Oprah that had male surrogates apologizing to a wide variety of women of different races who had been raped at some time during their lives. It was a powerful and emotional healing process to watch.
